Bus and Truck Driver Training
The bus and truck driver program at Sitting Bull College prepare students for careers as professional truck drivers, bus drivers and other professional delivery drivers. The program focuses on applying technical knowledge and skills to drive trucks and buses, delivery vehicles, and other commercial vehicles. Program courses include: operating gas/diesel and electrically-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo and passengers, reporting delays or accidents on the road, arranging transportation for personnel, and keeping records of receipts and fares. In honor of the Dakota values, Sitting Bull College promotes economic and social development through providing academic opportunities for the people of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in the southern North and northern South part of Dakota. It operates with a vision to work together and build a better future for the children.
Established in 1973, this school started as Standing Rock Community College (SRCC) and to mark its continued growth, its name was eventually changed to Standing Rock College (SRC) to its present designation, SBC. The campus in Fort Yates is located at9299 Hwy 24 Fort Yates, ND 58538.
SBC is accredited by the North Central Association of College and Schools and it is also affiliated with the American Indian Higher Education Consortium and the North Dakota Tribal College Association.
The different divisions of SBC are Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, Construction Trades, Business, Education, Energy Technology, Engineering, Math and Science, Native American Studies, Nursing, Social and Behavioral Science.
SBC aims to cultivate the students' leadership, technical and critical thinking skills as they uphold ethical standards and value for Native American cultures. Graduates are expected to be self-sufficient and able to cooperate and work in a diverse environment.
To foster an environment for students to actively participate in different activities, this school established a Student Life Committee. It involves the whole college in student-centered initiatives to enhance students' academic experience. Students may also join different organizations such as the Student Government, American Indian Business Leaders (AIBL), Culture Club and American Indian Higher Education Consortium(AIHEC).
