About
Snead State Community College, located in Boaz, Alabama, traces its origins to seminary approved by the Methodist Episcopal Church on 1898. The Boaz seminary saw rapid growth, and by 1906 changed its name to John H. Snead Seminary in honor of a local businessman who had donated money and land to the school.

In 1935 the school became chartered and began operating it as a junior college, followed by 32 years of private operation. In 1967 the school joined the Alabama two year college system and changed its name to Snead State Junior College until 1992 when the name was changed to the current.

Academics
Snead State Community College offers programs that allow for career development or academic transfer. Career development programs allow students to pursue an education in a high demand field with the purpose of entering the workforce as a trained professional upon completion.

Programs take between one and two years to complete and result in a certificate or degree upon completion. Academic transfer programs allows students to complete the first two years of a four year education at SSCC, followed by applying for transfer to a four year institution to continue their education and earn a bachelor's degree.

Snead State Community College is a public, two years,  open enrollment institution that admits any individuals that submits an application and pays all related fees. Students are asked to provide transcripts and test scores if available and may be required to take a placement exam prior to registration.

Transfer students and new students are encouraged to participation in orientation to get more familiar with the physical layout of the school.  In addition, it is recommended that students schedule at time to meet with an academic advisor to map out coursework towards a desired area of concentration.
