South Louisiana Community College
601 E. College Drive, Winnebago, NE
South Louisiana Community College, also referred to as SLCC, is a public two year institution located in Lafayette, Louisiana. The school was formed in 1997 in order to provide a number of Louisiana's parishes with post-secondary education opportunities.
The parishes served by the SLCC include Lafayette, Acadia, St. Landry, St. Martin, St, Mary, Evangeline, and Vermillion. The school maintains a second campus in Iberia and a center in Franklin. The school enrolls nearly 3000 students annually.
Academics
SLCC offers a variety of programs that allow for transfer or career development. This school is known for its education, liberal arts, and engineering technician programs, as well as for having the only “school of choice” program in the state, which allows high school students to complete their education and earn a high school diploma and associate degree at the same time.
Transfer programs allow for the pursuit of bachelor degrees upon completion, mirroring the first two years of a four year education and allowing for entry at the sophomore level at the transfer school. Career programs prepare individuals for long term employment through programs that provide education and training in a specific field, which usually take up to two years to complete.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Individuals wishing to enroll at SLCC may do so by completing the application and paying all fees. Some students may be required to take a placement exam. Students are asked to provide transcripts if available. Participation in orientation is encouraged, as is meeting with a counselor to discuss program enrollment and options.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships which are distributed based on need as determined by a student's completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which must be resubmitted yearly.
