Southern University at Shreveport, also known as SUSLA, was founded in 1967 as a two year campus of the Historically Black Southern University System, which includes four other campuses. The school offers educational opportunities to residents of Shreveport and Bossier City.
SouthernU was established the efforts of governor John J. McKeithen, who was responsible for the expansion of Southern University into a system of school, and the only historically black system of education in the United States. The schools primary goal is offering a strong 2two year education in order to meet the needs of the community.
Academics
Programs offered at SUSLA allow students to explore a variety of options while in pursuit of their future and goals. Students may choose to pursue academic transfer by completing the first two years of a four year education at SUSLA, followed by applying for transfer to a college or university in order to complete the final two years and earn a bachelor's degree.
Vocational training programs provided education and training for high demand fields, allowing the student to enter the workforce as a qualified professional. Student will take between one and two years to complete a program, resulting in a diploma or certificate that demonstrated competency.
