Southwestern Community College is a two-year postsecondary educational institution operating in the North Carolina Community College System. Southwestern Community College was established in 1964, in Sylva as the Jackson County Industrial Education Center. It provides instruction in more than 60 programs and awards Certificates, Diplomas and Associate Degrees for its various programs. Every year over 2500 students enroll for credit courses and over 5500 students enroll for other courses, workshops or seminars offered through Continuing Education. The college has opened a new Macon campus and also operates in 4 other centers that are located in Bryson City, Franklin and Cashiers.
