Spoon River College (SRC)

Spoon River College, located in Canton, Illinois, was founded in 1959 in response to the growing need for post-secondary education opportunities in the mid western Illinois city. The school was originally part of the Canton Union School District and operated out of Canton High School. Due to increased enrollment larger facilities were leased in several locations downtown to meet the school's needs. Following this, the school formed its own junior college district, as well purchasing and constructing the school's permanent home and changing its name from Canton Community College to the current. Since the school's founding the school has experience a large amount of growth requiring the addition of new facilities to accommodate its growing service area and increased enrollment, as a result the school maintain modern facilities suited to assist students in achieving their goals.

Academics

Spoon River College provides a large number of programs aimed at providing students academic transfer opportunities or career training. Academic transfer programs provide students the opportunity to begin the lower division portion of their education through the school, typically taking two years, followed by the transfer of credits to a four year college or university to complete the final two years of a bachelor degree. Career training programs provide the training and skill development necessary to perform the tasks and duties in a given field. Programs result in a certificate or associate degree and take between one and two years to complete. Graduates of a program may seek work opportunities upon completion of the program.

Students interested in enrolling should complete the admissions form, provide transcripts and test scores as well as meet with a counselor to discuss program placement and curriculum.
