St. Johns River State College was founded in Palatka, Florida in 1958 to serve the Putnam, Clay and St. Johns counties. SJRSC has currently has campuses in Palatka, St. Augustine and Orange Park and services over 100,000 students. Previously known as St. Johns River Community College, the name was changed in 2011 when the school began offering bachelor's degrees. The school is one of the many colleges that comprise the Florida College System, which includes a number of, two year and hybrid colleges throughout the state.
Academics
St. Johns River State College offers associate's degree and technical certificates for a variety of programs. Additionally SJRSC offers bachelor's degrees in early childhood development and organizational management. SJRSC also runs the Florida School of the Arts which offers programs in the visual and performing arts.
The school provides transfer opportunities by allowing students to complete the first two years of a four year education, followed by applying to four year institutions to transfer credits, complete the final two years and earn a bachelor's degree. Transfer to public schools in Florida is made easier through agreements in place between the Florida College System and the State University System of Florida that guarantee admission if certain academic prerequisites are met. Students planning to transfer to private or out of state schools must meet the individual admissions requirements of those schools and as such should meet with counselor to put together the best curriculum.
Career training and technical programs provide students with the skills and abilities necessary to enter the workforce in high demand fields as professionals.Students will be exposed to both classroom and, if necessary, simulated practice environments to perfect the methods and techniques used in their chosen field. Programs take between one and two years to complete, conferring a certificate or degree that demonstrates competency and allows one to seek employment at the entry level. Such programs are typically reflective of community needs and offered as part of the college's dedication to local workforce development.
