Mechanical Engineering Degree

The mechanical engineering program at Tacoma Community College prepares students for careers in design, implementation, and operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery. The program focuses on applying mathematical and scientific principles to the design, development, and operational evaluation of physical systems used in manufacturing and end-product systems. Program courses include: stationary power units and appliances, engines, self-propped vehicles, housing and containers, hydraulic and electric systems for controlling movement, and integration of computers and remote control operating systems. A community college located in Tacoma in Washington, Tacoma Community College first opened its doors to enrollees in 1965.  For over 40 years, TCC is committed to creating a dynamic academic community that supports not only the needs of the students but also the community that surrounds the campus as well.

Today, TCC offers a wide variety of associate degree and certificate programs on different disciplines including accounting, business, allied health services, information technology and human resources. Aside from teaching knowledge to students, TCC also offers workforce training to local businesses within the community as well as non-credit program and workshops to those who want to learn something new.

For this academic year (2013-2014), the tuition fee of in-district student is fixed at $110 per credit hour. Non-resident students have to pay $281 per credit hour but they can get a waiver to get almost 50% discounts on their tuition fees.

Since Tacoma Community College offers mostly associate degree programs, students who wish to enroll in a four-year course can take advantage of the transfer program of the school. TCC is accredited with the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities thus students can easily transfer to any four-year college or university. Universities supported by the transfer program of TCC include the University of Washington Tacoma, Evergreen State College, Central Washington University and Eastern Washington University.
