Child Development Degree
The child development program at Tohono O’Odham Community College prepares students for careers in child care centers, special needs programs, in home care, family child care, school age care, preschools, and recreational programs. The program focuses on the intellectual, social, emotional, and biological development of children and the planning and design of human services. Tohono O’Odham Community College

While they are dedicated to accommodate the residents of the Tohono O’odham Nation and founded on the objective of improving himdag (the community’s values, cultures, and way of life) by way of enhancing individuals, families, and communities through excellent-quality and holistic higher education services, Tohono O’odham Community College (TOCC) is the ideal stepping stone for anyone who wants to pursue further education with a vocational certificate, an associate degree, or a bachelor’s degree.
Serving the Tohono O’odham Nation with its three campuses—the main campus located at the Schuk Toak District and its Central and West campuses are situated in Sells, Arizona—TOCC has developed into a dynamic educational institution that provides several certificates, credentials and degrees. Accredited by the NCA, the TOCC curriculum is uniquely designed to facilitate students in fulfilling their educational goals while creating a well-trained and disciplined manpower for the community. Courses have been established to comprehensively complement programs at the University of Arizona as well as at Pima Community College.
Tohono O’odham Career Center merged with Tohono O’odham Community College in 2001. Now, construction and building trades and other vocational courses are offered under the school’s Department of Occupational Programs. TOCC basically offers developmental education (GED classes and Adult Basic Education); apprenticeships, certificates, and degrees for direct employment; and associate degrees for transfer to four-year universities.
Striving to integrate the preservation of the Tohono O’odham culture and tradition, TOCC strictly implements that all regular students and staff be well-trained and educated on the community’s culture, history, and language; finishing a course on natural resource management and agriculture; and becoming more aware and sensitive of the people and the culture across the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Advise, instruct, and assist individuals and families engaged in agriculture, agricultural-related processes, or home economics activities. Demonstrate procedures and apply research findings to solve problems; and instruct and train in product development, sales, and the use of machinery and equipment to promote general welfare.
