UNM-LA is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. This institution offers Certificate and Associate degree programs abreast with the current market needs. Such programs serve as training for a professional career and foundation for convenient transfer to four-year institutions.
Diverse areas of study and several courses are available under the different departments of UNM-LA including Applied Businesses, Business, Communications, Computer Science, Fine Arts, General Studies, Information Technology, Mathematics and Science & Engineering.
Each class has an average size of only 10 students allowing instructors to provide quality hands-on learning for students utilizing traditional teaching methods and integrated technologies such as televised programming via satellite, ITFS, video conferencing or the Internet.
Among the interesting courses at UNM-LA are Classics, the study of the ancient Greek and Romans; Fire Science, a new degree program designed for fire science and emergency medical services fields; and Robotics under the Associate of Applied Science degree.
Apart from the certificate and degree programs, UNM-LA provides online courses, community education and customized training courses for professional and personal development. Adults, out-of-school youth and non-English speaking individuals 16 years of age and above are also given the opportunity to improve their educational level through the Adult Learning Center.
