Quality education for a lifetime success is the mission statement of the University of New Mexico Valencia, a branch campus of UNM. It serves as a community college for the Valencia and Northern Socorro County.
The campus is situated in Tome, NM in between the two main centers of the Valencia County. It occupies 150 acres of rural land consists of nine modern buildings and surrounded by exceptional landscape which has been recognized by the New Mexico Society of Architecture.
In pursuit of its goal, UNM Valencia equips the students with the necessary knowledge and competence to gain an edge in a today's highly competitive industry through its five part educational program which includes Technical Education, Certificates and Associate of Science degrees, Basic Skills assistance, Community Education and Small Business Development program.
Under the Technical Education program are Certificates and two-year Associate of Applied Science degrees designed for career-oriented students. Conversely, Certificates and Associate of Science degrees serve as preparation for transfer to four-year colleges and universities specifically to UNM-Main Campus.
Basic Skills assistance encompasses Developmental Credit courses, Adult Education program and Student Enrichment Center designed to assist students who are not yet eligible for college to improve their skills and consequently achieve their educational goals.
In response to the special needs of the community, the Community Education program offers non-credit courses through workshops, seminars and other programs. Moreover, the Small Business Development program serves the county’s small businesses and provides certification upon completion of entrepreneurship courses.
Among the academic support services available at UNM Valencia are the learning center, wellness center and upward bound program intended to enrich student’s learning and academic experience.
