Wilson Community College (WCC)

Wilson Community College, located in Wilson, North Carolina, is one of the 52 schools that comprise the North Carolina Community College System. The school was established in 1958 as the Wilson Industrial Education Center, and is one of the system's oldest institutions. The school almost immediately began to expand, resulting in the construction of new facilities over the course of its history. The school became a Wilson Technical Community College in 1989. The school changed its name again in 2007 to better reflect its expanded role as a comprehensive institution.

Academics

Wilson Community College offers a variety of programs that allow students to pursue career training or academic transfer opportunities. Career training programs are designed to prepare students with the skills and abilities necessary to enter the workforce as qualified professionals. Programs take up to two years to complete and result in a certificate or degree that demonstrates competency and allows for pursuit of employment at the entry level. Academic transfer programs provide the first two years of a four year education, followed by transfer to a college or university to complete the final two years and earn one's bachelor's degree. Transfer is made easier to North Carolina public institutions, though transfer is possible to private and out of state schools.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Wilson Community College is an open enrollment institution that allows any individual that meets the minimum requirements for admission to enroll through the submission of an application. Students must also provide a transcript of their previous education, and if possible their standardized test scores. If test scores are unavailable the student may be required to take a placement exam prior to registration. Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Aid must be applied for prior to each academic year through the completion and submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which is used to determine need and aid program eligibility for a student's financial aid packet.
