Founded in 1979 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, as Northeast Arkansas Medical Assistant Training School, the school got its current name in 1985, when it was permanently relocated to its present site in Little Rock, Arkansas. During the years that followed, two more campuses went operational – in Metairie, Louisiana (1986) and Shreveport, Louisiana (2005.)
Eastern College is a private, for-profit institution that currently enrolls about 400 students – all undergraduates – into its two core programs: Medical Assistant and Dental Assistant. Each course is carefully crafted to train students to handle basic procedures and situations they will come across in real-life situations. For example, the Dental Assistant program includes training in Dental Radiography; because this part of the program is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Dental Examiners, graduates of this program will be qualified to perform Dental Radiography procedures.
The college is approved to participate in various financial aid programs, and the current percentage of students receiving some form of financial assistance is 77%, which is lower than the average for two-year colleges. In addition to assisting with financial aid applications, the college also offers an extern program, assistance with résumé building and job placement.
