The Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing was established by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in Cleveland, Ohio. The school was originally based in a house located in Sandusky and served as a classroom and residence combined, until 1960, when new facilities were provided.
In 1923, the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio took over the school administration until the Great Depression forced the school to temporarily close from 1934 to 1942. Firelands Regional Medical Center took over ownership of the School of Nursing in 2001, an arrangement that allows nursing students to study and practice their skills in a 400-bed healthcare facility that serves over 300,000 people in the local area.
