Nursing Program
The nursing program at Centra College of Nursing prepares students for careers in hospitals, convalescent centers, clinics, home care, and physician's offices. The program focuses on knowledge, techniques and procedures for promoting health, providing care for the sick, disabled, infirmed, or other individuals or groups. Centra College of Nursing is one of three schools housed at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia. Committed to providing excellent care to everyone—individuals, families, and patients, Centra College of Nursing states that graduates will learn the best practices, using critical thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Centra College of Nursing offers two degree programs:
- Associate Degree in Nursing Program (ADN)
- Practical Nurse Program
The Associate Degree in Nursing program is a 5-semester educational program, and students are only admitted twice a year—in August and January. Clinical experiences are provided at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital and Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital, with a host of other agencies used as clinical sites. Application deadlines are May 1st for August classes and September 1st for January classes.
The Practical Nurse Program is a 12-month program accepting students once a year—in January. Their clinicals are also performed at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital and Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital. Application deadlines are July 1st for January classes.
The Associate Degree in Nursing Program is $19,870 if completing the program within the normal amount of time. The Practical Nurse Program runs $8,827. Typical costs for books and supplies, as well as room and board are $2850 for Associate Degree in Nursing and $1962 for Practical Nurse.

Description
Demonstrate and teach patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of teaching and research.
Registered Nurses
Description
Assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Licensing or registration required.
