Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing is located in Miami, Florida, and is a Catholic, private, hospital-based school. Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), approved by the State of Florida Board of Nursing, and licensed by the State of Florida Department of Education.

Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing was founded in 1981, with only 12 students in the class. Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing is Florida’s only private Catholic hospital-based program for students seeking to study practical nursing. As of 2001, the will have celebrated 20 years of superb practical nursing preparation. The Mayor of Miami Dade County even decreed a Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing Day for August 3rd. The school expanded in 2002, and went from one day program to three programs, which included one evening program.

Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing seeks to teach graduate students of its program how to provide compassionate and safe nursing care while under the supervision of licensed physicals and registered nurses.

Students seeking to attend Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing will need to do the following:

  • Take a pre-entrance exam
  • Complete the application for admission
  • Have three letters of verifiable references
  • Submit official high school, college, or vocational transcripts (if applicable), as well as GED test scores, if necessary.
  • Complete an interview conducted by the director or a member of the staff

Additional requirements may include any active CPR cards and complete of any physical exams, lab tests, PPD skin tests, etc. There is also a required drug and alcohol screening performed on site. Applicants are responsible for any exam and lab tests fees. In addition, every applicant must pass a criminal background test to be admitted to Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing.
