About
Augustana College, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was founded in 1860, though its history dates to 1835 when Scandinavian immigrants established Hillsboro Academy in Hillsboro, Illinois. The school has seen migration to various states and cities with a variety of for the better part of its early history, eventually settling in Sioux Falls as the Lutheran Normal School in 1889. The schools close proximity to Augustana College located in Canton, resulted in the merger between the two schools in 1918, resulting in the Augustana College and Normal School, followed by the dropping of the “and Normal School” from the name in 1926. Augustana College is a private four year liberal arts institution based on Lutheran principles.
Academics
Augustana College offers over sixty majors and 34 minors, allowing students to select the program and education that best suits his or her academic and career goals. Most programs take four years to complete and result in a bachelor's degree. Minor degrees provide additional studies in a separate field of interest or a field that augments one's major through related study. Additionally, the school offers master degree programs in education and sports administration and leadership, requiring a separate application for admission with its own requirements.

Admissions and Financial Aid
Students interested in enrollment at Augustana College must meet the minimum requirements for admission, including a minimum 2.7 GPA, an ACT score of 20 (SAT 950), writing competency demonstrated through the essay, and a letter of recommendation. Applicants must supply transcripts from previous schools. Once the application and necessary information is submitted it will be reviewed and a decision made. If admitted, students will receive information to prepare for their time at Augustana College.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and obtain a Federal PIN.
