California Lutheran University, located in Thousand Oaks, California, was founded in 1959 and was originally known as California Lutheran College. The school's location was donated by the Pederson family, who were among the many Scandinavian families living in the region at the time. The Scandinavian roots are still present at the school, celebrated through cultural festival every spring. The school is considered one the best school in the west and considered a leader in developing education standards.
