Muskingum University (Muskingum)

Muskingum University, located in New Concord, Ohio, was founded in 1937 by Scotch-Irish settlers of the region through cooperation with the New Concord government and in affiliation with the Presbyterian Church. The school became a coeducational institution in 1958 and saw increased growth after the Civil War. The school has gone from a few hundred students in the late 1800's to nearly 2000 enrolled students today. The school has also transitioned from a classical college to a liberal arts college.

Academics

Muskingum University offers a variety of bachelor and graduate degree programs, allowing students to pursue a major that best suits their interests under the auspices of a liberal arts education. The school has a 16-1 student teacher ratio, allowing students to easily approach their professors and to obtain a more personalized education. The undergraduate science program available at the school is considered among the best in the United States, and all areas of study are given importance in regards to quality student education. Graduate programs have separate requirements for admission, including a different application process, an undergraduate degree, and GRE scores.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Admission to Muskingum University is based on the student's application, high school curriculum, college preparation work, standardized test scores, teacher and counselor recommendations, and activities and traits outside of a classroom setting. These factors will be taken into consideration by a review committee when determining if a student will be admitted to the university. Once a decision is rendered a notification will be given to the applicant, and if accepted it will be accompanied by material preparing the student for a transition to college life.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships, awarded based on need as determined through the information provided by a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The financial aid office will utilize information within the FAFSA to prepare a financial aid package for the student based on need and merit. Students must reapply for aid prior to the start of each academic year.
