Nursing Program

The nursing program at College of Coastal Georgia prepares students for careers in hospitals, convalescent centers, clinics, home care, and physician's offices. The program focuses on knowledge, techniques and procedures for promoting health, providing care for the sick, disabled, infirmed, or other individuals or groups. Program courses include: administration of medication and treatments, assisting and physician during treatments and examinations, referring patients to physicians and other health care specialists, and planning education for health maintenance. College of Coastal Georgia (CCGA)

The College of Coastal Georgia, located in Brunswick, Georgia, was founded in 1961 and began operation in 1964, utilizing a bond measure from residents of Brunswick and Glynn Counties to purchase the land and construct facilities. From 1980 until 2009 the school offered certificate and associate degree programs, but in late 2008 was approved for offering bachelor degree programs, resulting in the addition of a new programs in 2009. The new focus of providing four year educational opportunities is part of the school's long term plan to redirect its educational programs, expand and renovate its facilities, and provide student housing. The planned changes extend to 2020, when the school's redesign should be completed.

Academics

College of Coastal Georgia currently offers a number of bachelor and associate degree programs for aspiring students. As part of the schools future goals additional four year programs are being added, with a public affairs bachelor program currently the next to be offered. Associate programs typically take 2 years to complete and are offered at the school as pre-bachelor programs designed to ready students for either transfer or continued education at the current location. Bachelor programs typically take four years to complete, and allow for career opportunities or further education pursuits at the graduate level.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Students interested in enrollment at College of Coastal Georgia should complete and submit an admissions application along with all pertinent information, including transcripts and standardized test scores. Standardized test scores may be used in lieu of a COMPASS placement exam if the student scores sufficiently. All students must submit proof of person either through a passport, birth certificate or driver's license. Immunization records must also be submitted. Financial aid is available in the form of grants, loans and work study programs. To determine eligibility and awards students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which will provide a student aid report (SAR) that the school will use. Scholarships may also be available, requiring a separate application and given for reasons as outlined by the scholarships purpose.

Athletics

The College of Coastal Georgia Mariners Participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' (NAIA) Southern States Athletic Conference. Intercollegiate sports offer students an opportunity to demonstrate school pride and compete with others under an atmosphere of healthy competition. Sports provide discipline and training,  presenting students with the skills and behaviors that may be applied in academics or careers.

Description

Demonstrate and teach patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of teaching and research.

Registered Nurses

Description

Assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Licensing or registration required.
