Oregon State University (OSU)

Oregon State University (OSU) is a top public research university located in the idyllic scenic town of Corvallis, Oregon. Just 90 miles south of Portland, OSU students are surrounded by 400 acres of the verdant green that Oregon is famous for, and within easy reach of the Cascades and the Pacific Coast.
OSU offers more than 200 undergraduate degree programs and 80 graduate degree programs. Twenty academic degrees are offered online. More than 3,000 faculty members serve students in 36 counties in Oregon through its many Extension offices. OSU has 12 colleges and 15 agricultural experiment stations. It also runs the Hatfield Marine Sciences Center in Newport and the OSU-Cascades center in Bend, Oregon.
OSU has many nationally recognized programs, including the highest ranking in the nation for conservation biology, and high marks for agricultural sciences, nuclear engineering, forestry, fisheries and wildlife management, community health, pharmacy and zoology. The university is very "green," using renewable energy and exercise machines in the student fitness center that are connected to the power grid.
There are many historic buildings on the OSU campus, including landmarks such as Weatherford Hall, the Memorial Union, and Benton Hall, among others.
History
Founded as Corvallis College in the 1868 as a Land Grant university, OSU also has a Sea Grant, a Space Grant and a Sun Grant. These designations are unique to OSU, which is also the only university in Oregon to hold top honors in both research and community engagement.

Student Life
Oregon State University is known for its welcoming campus community, and there are more than 300 student clubs and organizations available for involvement. Clubs cover interests such as student government, sports, community service, socializing, environmental awareness, theater and music. Activities and events also abound, with guest lectures, concerts, festivals and other cultural programs available throughout the year. Greek life is very active at OSU, with several local chapters of fraternities and sororities on campus.
Student resources at OSU include recreational sports, student health services, disability access services, the OSU Bookstore, a Recreation Center, Craft Center, and on-campus housing and dining services.
Traditions
The official school colors for OSU are orange and black, with white as an accent color. The school mascot is "Benny Beaver," and the athletic teams are nicknamed the Oregon State "Beavers."

The OSU campus is in Corvallis, a small town in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley. The town has been voted one of the nicest and safest places to live in the U.S., and the area boasts plenty of outdoor recreation.
