Troy University

1225 Air Base Blvd, Montgomery, AL

Troy University, located in Troy, Alabama, is an institution of higher education offering undergraduate and graduate degrees.  Troy University has 60 learning sites across the United States in 17 states and in 11 countries worldwide.  The TROY Global Campus division of Troy University operates the learning sites outside of Alabama.

The university also offers many of its degrees online through its "eTROY" program.  Students may opt to complete an accredited degree entirely online or through a mix of onsite classroom study and online coursework.

TROY prides itself in preparing students for many varied opportunities, rather than just focusing its curricula on job-specific training.  It offers many excellent academic programs that rank high nationally, including a strong fine arts program for music and theatre.  The distinguished Troy Dancer Reparatory attracts dancers of diverse backgrounds.  TROY is also a Military Friendly school, offering many programs and benefits to returning military personnel and their families.

History

Founded in 1887 as the Troy State Normal School to train teachers for Alabama's schools.  The school was renamed several times through the years, as it grew and expanded its programs.  Enrollment at the school doubled after World War II due to returning veterans taking advantage of their military benefits to train for civilian careers. This period of growth led to the introduction of degree programs beyond teaching to include business and other disciplines.  Many extension courses were offered at learning centers on nearby military bases throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and some of these centers still exist today as Troy University satellite campuses.

Traditions

The official colors of Troy University are cardinal red, silver and black.  The official mascot of TROY is, naturally, the Trojan.
