History

Founded in 1887 as the Troy State Normal School to train teachers for Alabama's schools.  The school was renamed several times through the years, as it grew and expanded its programs.  Enrollment at the school doubled after World War II due to returning veterans taking advantage of their military benefits to train for civilian careers. This period of growth led to the introduction of degree programs beyond teaching to include business and other disciplines.  Many extension courses were offered at learning centers on nearby military bases throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and some of these centers still exist today as Troy University satellite campuses.

The official colors of Troy University are cardinal red, silver and black.  The official mascot of TROY is, naturally, the Trojan.
