The veterinary assistant program at Vermont Technical College prepares students to assist veterinarians, laboratory animal specialists, and zoological professionals in treating animals. They also have the option to become a kennel attendant, animal caretaker, groomer, zookeeper, or animal trainer. Vermont Technical College is a four year institution located in Vermont. VTC offers students a quiet country setting, but with plenty to see and do. Although VTC is a smaller technical college, students who attend and graduate can expect rewarding careers across many different fields. Vermont Technical College also provides its students with hands on experience that adequately prepares them for their chosen careers.
Students can earn their Bachelor of Science, along with their Associate degrees in Applied Science, Engineering and Certifications as well. Perform medical tests in a laboratory environment for use in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases in animals. Prepare vaccines and serums for prevention of diseases. Prepare tissue samples, take blood samples, and execute laboratory tests, such as urinalysis and blood counts. Clean and sterilize instruments and materials and maintain equipment and machines. May assist a veterinarian during surgery.
