A renal and dialysis tech is a professional that performs hemodialysis treatments to patients with renal failure under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse.  Renal is the technical term for the kidneys or relating to the kidneys.  A dialysis technologist is a medical professional that works to help remove excess water and waste from the kidneys for people with limited use or no use of kidney function.

Ogeechee Technical College, located in Statesboro, Georgia, was founded in 1987 through the approval of the Georgia General Assembly. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, located in Valdosta, Georgia, was established in 2010 through the merger of the East Central Technical College and Valdosta Technical College. Southern Crescent Technical College, located in Griffin, Georgia, was established through the merger of two pre-existing institutions, Griffin Technical College and Flint River Technical College, in 2008. The merger took place in order to consolidate technical schools, allowing for reduced budgets through larger combined college. Through the merger the school now maintains two campuses, one in Griffin and the other in Thomaston, as well as centers in Monticello, Butler and Jackson. Atlanta Technical College was founded in 1945 as the Smith-Hughes Vocational School. Brenda Watts Jones became the first African- American woman to run a technical institution when she became president of ATC in 1997. In 2008 ATC was ranked first Washington Monthly's top thirty 2-year educational institutions. ATC is a member Technical College System of Georgia. Lake Superior College, located in Duluth, Minnesota, is a public two year institution established in 1995. The school formed as a merger between Duluth Technical College and the Duluth Community College Center (A branch of Hibbing Community College). The Northcentral Technical College is a technical college located in Wausau, Wisconsin.  The main campus of NTC is located in Wausau but there are several regional centers that are established within the state which are located in Antigo, Merrill, Medford, Spencer, Phillips and Wittenberg.  A member of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems, NTC has a humble beginning. Established in 1912, it was first named Wausau Industrial School but was later renamed in 1988 with its current name.

The school offers more than 50 courses from different fields of expertise which include agriculture, community service, agriculture, general studies, public safety and health. Moreover, the school also offers more than 100 certificate programs that can be taken by first time students as well as employees who wish to take refresher courses to improve their careers. As an open enrollment institution, any students having earned a high school diploma or equivalent or are 18 years of age or older will be admitted through the submission of an application for admission. Students must supply transcripts and standardized test scores, with a placement exam being required if no standardized scores are available. New students should participate in orientation as well as meet with a counselor to discuss programs and plan a curriculum.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants, and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistance are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) either online or through mail submission. The resulting information will be used to determine financial need, program eligibility and monetary awards. Financial aid should be applied for prior to posted school deadlines and be reapplied for prior to the start of each academic year. Students may be randomly selected to provide the financial aid office with additional documentation to ensure the FAFSA is accurate prior to the disbursement of funds as per federal regulation.

Athletics
The CCRI Knights participate in a number of intercollegiate athletics through the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), allowing for local, regional and countrywide participation in a number of sports. Students participating in an athletic program will add additional training and work to their academic workload and must learn to balance their studies with their activities. Chemeketa Community College, located in Salem, Oregon, was founded in 1952 when it was originally known as the Salem Technical-Vocational School. The school was founded with the intention to train unemployed individuals, resulting in an increase in trained and qualified persons in the workforce. The school was renamed in 1969 through a competition held by the recently formed community college district which resulted in the choosing of Chemeketa, which means “a peaceful gathering place.” Today the school serves over 50,000 students annually through a 2,600 square mile service area that includes the counties of Yamhill, Marion and Polk.

Academics

Chemeketa Community College offers a variety of programs that allow students to choose the one that meets their needs, be it through career training or academic transfer opportunities. Career training programs provide theoretical and practical education in the methods and techniques used in their area of study in order to become professionals. Students will learn how to apply their skills to real world settings through the use of controlled environments. Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is a two-year community college that emphasizes technical training. MATC has four major campuses in the Milwaukee area. Each of the four campuses offers 200 programs that lead to an associate's degree, technical diploma or professional certificate. Some programs are offered in an accelerated format for students who have less time available to complete their programs.

Students can choose an occupational program with credits that count towards a future bachelor's degree, or complete the first half of a bachelor's degree via the Liberal Arts and Sciences program. Many students take classes for personal enrichment, to upgrade their job skills, gain new skills, or apprentice in a trade. Students may also attend MATC to earn a high school diploma, GED or HSED.

Classes are available during the day, in the evening, on weekends and online.

Students at MATC receive targeted, practical instruction and training for their career of choice. More than 80 percent of graduates find employment within six months of graduation or successfully continue on to four-year colleges and universities.

MATC faculty members have extensive professional experience in their occupational fields. Students at MATC benefit from hands-on teaching, smaller class sizes and individual attention.

History

Milwaukee Area Technical College was founded in 1912 as the Milwaukee Continuation School, located in the Manufacturers' Home Building in Milwaukee. Classrooms at this location became overcrowded, leading to the construction of a permanent school on State Street. Eight years later, construction of the school was completed and the school was renamed the Milwaukee Vocational School.

Evening classes have been offered from the beginning, and there has always been an emphasis on technical classes and "practical learning" taught by industry professionals.

The school has grown over the years to become one of the largest community-based technical colleges in the Midwest.

During World War II, the Milwaukee Vocational School was turned into a training center for defense workers. The Army Signal Corps set up a training unit on campus. The school ran day and night, seven days a week, facilitating the entry of large numbers of women and African Americans into the industrial workforce for the first time. When the war ended, returning servicemen flooded the traditional apprentice programs. The influx of adult learners led the college to change its name to Milwaukee Vocational and Adult School in 1948.

After WWII, Milwaukee Vocational School developed a series of technical programs that led to the school's transformation into the Milwaukee Institute of Technology in 1951.

In the past 20 years, the Hispanic community in the Milwaukee area has increased, leading to changes in teaching methods and curricula at MATC. Working with its Office of Bilingual Education, MATC launched an series of bilingual courses for Hispanic students, aimed at workforce development. Bilingual programs are available in several career choices, including Office Assistant, Nursing Assistant, and Phlebotomy. MATC also provides condensed Spanish language courses for service professionals needing bilingual skills.

Southern University at Shreveport, also known as SUSLA, was founded in 1967 as a two year campus of the Historically Black Southern University System, which includes four other campuses. The school offers educational opportunities to residents of Shreveport and Bossier City.

SouthernU was established the efforts of governor John J. McKeithen, who was responsible for the expansion of Southern University into a system of school, and the only historically black system of education in the United States. The schools primary goal is offering a strong 2two year education in order to meet the needs of the community.

History

Delgado Community College, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, was founded in 1921 and named for its Benefactor Isaac Delgado, a Jamaican Immigrant and businessman who provided the funds to open a manual trade school for young boys. Over time the mission and name of the school changed, expanding its offerings and role in the community until the mid 1970's when the school was transferred from city to state control and had its name changed to its current. Delgado is now Louisiana's oldest and largest community college, providing an array of programs across multiple campuses to serve the city of New Orleans.
