About
Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, located in Valdosta, Georgia, was established in 2010 through the merger of the East Central Technical College and Valdosta Technical College. The merger was approved as part of a number of mergers taking place throughout the state in order to consolidate resources and geographic realignment. The school maintains four campuses in Valdosta, Fitzgerald, Douglas, and Sparks., as well an extended campus in Moody Air Force Base and multiple education centers in the school's eleven county service area. The school is a member of the Technical College System of Georgia, which is responsible for the operation of all two year educational institutions in the state.
Academics
Wiregrass Georgia Technical College offers a large number of programs and services that meet the needs of residents of its service area. Transfer to four year institutions in Georgia are facilitated by agreements in place that ease requirements for admission, though individuals wishing to transfer to private or out of state schools should meet with a counselor to discuss transfer and curriculum options due to varying requirements.
Career training programs offer students an education in a high demand field or industry with the purpose of assisting them with entry into the workforce as qualified professionals. Students will participate in traditional and practical courses as defined by the program curriculum, with practical courses providing training and development in a controlled environment under the supervision of professionals. These programs take between one and two years to complete, and give the student an associate degree or certificate which demonstrates competency upon graduation.
