Broome Community College, located in Binghamton, New York, was founded in 1946 and is one of the many schools that comprise the State University System of New York. Over the years the school has become a comprehensive institution, offering residents in its service area a dedication to excellence through high quality instruction and education. The school is located in the Susquehanna River Valley, which provides a scenic and calming atmosphere that is conducive to the learning experience while providing easy access to urban, suburban and rural settings.
Academics
Broome Community College offers a large variety of educational and career training opportunities as part of its dedication to supporting the community it serves. Students choosing to pursue academic transfer will find that they must complete the first two years of a four year education followed by applying of a four year institution to continue their education. Students applying within the SUNY system will have an easier time transferring due to arrangements in place that guarantee admission if certain academic criteria are met. Transfer is possible to out of state or private institutions, but their admissions requirements will vary and it is advised they be researched well in advance.
Career training programs reflect the needs of the community through workforce development programs, and offer individuals an education in a variety of fields that are in demand. Each program has its own curriculum that provides training, study and development opportunities that occur both in traditional classroom settings, and if necessary, through facilities designed to simulate real world settings used for the development of practical experience. These programs take between one and two years to complete and result in a certificate or associate's degree which demonstrates dedication and competency.

Admissions and Financial Aid
As an open enrollment institution, and individual that wishes to enroll at Broome Community College may do so by meeting the minimum requirements for admission (18 years of age or older or having a high school diploma or equivalent), submitting a completed application and paying all accrued fees. Students should also supply previous transcripts and standardized test scores if available, and should be prepared to take a placement exam prior to registration. A visit with a counselor is also encouraged to discuss personal and academic goals, program enrollment and curriculum.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistance must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which is used by the school's financial aid department to determine need and aid program eligibility when compiling one's financial aid packet. Financial aid must be reapplied for prior to each academic year. Students may be asked at random to provide additional finance and tax information which will be compared to the submitted information in order to verify it's accuracy.
