Herkimer County Community College, located in Herkimer, New York, and was established in 1965 through the State University of New York System's approval. Classes began two years later with an initial enrollment of 221 students. The school was given a permanent campus in the Village of Herkimer in 1971 and has been expanding its enrollment and programs since. The school continues its tradition of growth and quality by reviewing and adding programs and services to meet current and future student needs.
Academics
Students enrolled at Herkimer County Community College are able to choose between career training and academic transfer programs. Career training programs offer an education that prepares an individual for a career in a high demand field or industry as a qualified professional. Programs take between one and two years to complete and result in a certificate or degree upon completion. Academic transfer programs provide an education that mirror the freshman and sophomore years of a four year education, and allow student to transfer their credits to a four year institution and continue their education, completing the final two years and eventually earning a bachelor's degree.

HCCC is an open enrollment institution that allows any individual to enter if they meet the minimum requirements for enrollment, complete an application, pay all fees and supply previous transcripts. Students may also be asked to take a placement exam prior to registration, and are encouraged to participate in new student orientation and meet with a counselor prior to their first semester. Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships and awarded based on need as determined through the information provided on a student's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
