Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, located in Asheville, North Carolina, is a two year public institution founded in 1959. The school is one of the largest in North Carolina, with a curriculum enrollment of over 9000 students, and an overall enrollment of nearly 17,000 students. AB Technical Community College is also one of the oldest in the North Carolina Community College System, and serves the counties of Madison and Buncombe. Academics
Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College offers a large number of programs resulting in either an associate's degree, diploma or certificate. These programs provide technical training for career minded individuals, or transfer opportunities for students wishing to continue their education. Career minded students will study in a program of their choosing to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce as professionals capable of completing the tasks and duties required of their particular area of expertise. Graduates of such programs will earn a degree, diploma or certificate that demonstrates one's competency and allow one to obtain an entry level position. Such programs take typically between one and two years to complete.

Students interested in transfer will complete the first two years of a four year education at a low cost, the transfer their credits to a college or university to complete their bachelor's degree. Students must apply to schools of their choosing, and it is recommended they meet with an academic advisor to outline a plan for transfer. Public colleges and universities in North Carolina will be easier to transfer to due to agreements in place with the North Carolina Community College System.

Admissions and Financial Aid
As a two year open enrollment institution, students who meet the minimum standard for entry will be admitted to Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. Students must be 18 years of age or older, or have a high school diploma or equivalent (students pursuing financial aid must have a high school diploma or equivalent) may complete the admissions application to obtain enrollment. It is recommended that students meet with an academic advisor to outline their goals and attend student orientation. Registration begins shortly before the start of each semester.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which will be used by the school to determine need, eligibility and awards. Students may be asked to provide additional financial information prior to the disbursement of funds to verify the accuracy of the information provided.
