East Stroudsburg University, located in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was originally a private normal school founded in 1983 to provide elementary and science education courses. By 1920 ownership was passed to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, resulting in a name change to East Stroudsburg State Normal School.

Within seven years the school was granted the right to offer bachelor's degrees, resulting in yet another name change, this time to State Teachers College at East Stroudsburg. By 1960 the college had expanded its offerings, and by n963 was offering Bachelor of Arts and master degrees and became formally known as East Stroudsburg State College.

By 1982 the school officially was recognized as a university and changed its name to the current.  East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is a comprehensive university providing a variety of educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.

Academics

East Stroudsburg University provides multiple majors, allowing students to choose a program of study that best reflects his or her interests and career goals. Students may be considered for admission regardless of low GPA or test scores if they demonstrate remarkable talent, though this is rare. As a result students wishing to enroll should have above average grades and score moderately well on standardized tests if they wish to be admitted.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants, scholarships and work study programs. Students in need of aid should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is used to determine need, family contribution, aid program eligibility and monetary awards.
