What is Solar Energy Technology?

Solar energy technology is a field of study emphasizing the mechanics, design, and installation of renewable energy systems.  The solar energy technology degree track prepares students to design, manage, and maintain a variety of renewable energy systems and green projects.

Expertise is garnered via hands-on training, classroom projects, and case studies for industries of all types.  The combination of pragmatic experience and academic heft helps solar energy techs translate concepts into reality.

A solar energy major will take courses in college to help provide a solid basis in the sustainability field.  While classes will flex by program, the end result will be to equip students with valuable skills.

Knowledge by solar energy graduates will include in-depth understanding of: fluid mechanics, energy management, electrochemistry, statistics, thermodynamics, photovoltaic devices, energy management, solid-state devices, energy efficient manufacturing, fuel science, and mathematical modeling.

Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology (CPI), located in Pleasant Gap, PA, is a great vocational training opportunity for high school students and adults looking to further their education and careers. CPI hopes to produce highly competent individuals who are prepared and motivated to pursue the high skill careers of the 21st century. CPI is an accredited institution by the Pennsylvania State Board of Vocational Education. 

CPI has 19 different programs offered to high school students. Arizona State University is the largest research university in the US, with four campuses; the Tempe Campus being the original and the largest campus. It is located approximately eight miles from downtown Phoenix, in the heart of Tempe, Arizona.

History

The first building erected on the Tempe Campus was Old Main. It remains a part of the Tempe Campus today and was built in 1898. That was 14 years before Arizona officially became a state. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The Tempe Campus includes several notable buildings, including Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium, which was designed by American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.

Campus Life

Danforth Meditation Chapel was built in 1947 and is a place where students can relax and meditate. It is located south of Hayden Library Entrance on Cady Mall. A large fountain adds to the atmosphere with the soothing sound of water.

There are more than 500 clubs where students can make friends, gain leadership skill and become involved in community activities. The Memorial Union is a community center for students, staff and guests. The building has four levels that offer programs, services and student involvement opportunities.

Sports and Recreation

Cheer the Sun Devils on to victory or participate in other activities and sports. If you enjoy working out, be sure to visit the weight rooms and cardio machines. Tempe Campus also offers an Introduction to Personal Training.

There are a variety of support services for students at the Tempe Campus, including disability services, computer services, commuter services, a bookstore and Adult Learner Resources.

Community

Tempe is the seventh largest city in Arizona. Visit the Tempe Historical Museum to learn of the city's history or visit the University of Arizona's Art Museum. Admission to both of these attractions is free.

University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV) is an urban institution of higher learning and research in the fast-growing city of Las Vegas. It is situated on a 350-acre primary campus, with two satellite campuses in Southern Nevada.  UNLV recently founded an international campus in Singapore. History

The University of Nevada - Las Vegas was founded in 1957.  Prior to that, due to metropolitan growth in the Las Vegas area in 1951, the University of Nevada - Reno (UNR) had established an extension program, held in the Las Vegas High School's auditorium.  In 1954, that extension program became the Southern Regional Division of the University of Nevada, shortened to "Nevada Southern." Students at Nevada Southern chose "Rebel" as their athletics name and mascot to reflect their wish to become independent from UNR.  Nevada Southern held its first classes on its own campus in 1957.  The school finally became independent from UNR in 1968, and in 1969, it adopted its current name.

Student Life

There are many clubs, organizations, programs, events and activities available for students who want to become involved on the UNLV campus.  SCORE is the Student Organization Resource Center, and the place where students can find out about involvement opportunities or use the office resources.

UNLV's student union houses the Office of Civic Engagement and Diversity, which provides further opportunities and resources for involvement in campus programs, diversity programs, international programs, fraternity and sorority life, service, leadership and civic engagement, and more.

Traditions

The original mascot for the UNLV "Rebels," chosen in the 1950s, was a gray wolf wearing a Confederate uniform.  The school colors chosen at that time were gray and scarlet.  The school mascot was later changed to a rebel mountain man, who is nicknamed "Hey Reb!," but the school colors are still UNLV's traditional gray and scarlet.  The men's basketball team is known as the "Runnin' Rebels."

Charlotte Technical Center offers many outstanding programs. At the completion of these programs one will receive a vocational certificate. Full-time programs are Monday through Friday and can be taken in one to three semesters. The center is located in Port Charlotte, Florida and has been helping students for many years. Tuition varies per course, but is affordable. Adult education programs are offered in Medical Administrative Specialist, Digital Design, Dental Assisting, Nursing, Automotive Service Technology, Cosmetology, Early Childhood Education, Computer Systems Technology, and Drafting. The Adult Learning Center (ALC) is part of the Charlotte County Public School System. The center tries to make education accessible through different programs. No matter one’s schedule, one can further their education. Students have the opportunity to use learning labs. These are opportunities that allow students to work by themselves to develop their skills and prepare for the GED exam. Students can studying during the day or evening. Charlotte Technical Center offers the flexibility that adults need. Assignments are given to help with the Test of Adult Education (TABE). Instructors work with students to help them understand areas that are having trouble with. Student progress is self-paced, and the required skill levels for the various goals are different. Classes are offered to help individuals will different skills. Classes are offered in math, reading, and English as a Second Language. Courses are offered at a variety of locations. One-on-one tutoring is available as well. Education breeds success and the Charlotte Technical Center works with students to achieve success.

The D G Erwin Technical center is an educational facility located in Tampa, FL that is dedicated to preparing students for entry into the work force. Erwin has programs that are designed to train you in a number of different career types including: industrial, health, business, and design. The D G Erwin Technical Center strives to make sure you are qualified for any certifications or employments that may be ahead of you.

Ogeechee Technical College, located in Statesboro, Georgia, was founded in 1987 through the approval of the Georgia General Assembly. The school is one of 33 schools that comprise the Technical College System of Georgia, serving the counties of Bullock, Screven and Evans, as well as parts of other nearby counties.  The school was originally known as Ogeechee Technical Institute, but changed its name in 2000 to better reflect its role and purpose. About
Clovis Community College, located in Clovis, New Mexico, was founded in 1961 as a branch campus to Eastern New Mexico University. The school was built in conjunction with Clovis Municipal Schools in order to bring post secondary educational options to the area. The school was given its current campus in 1978, where it experienced a high amount of growth in both surface area and student enrollment. The school was voted by local residents in 1990 to be given local controlled independent community college. Though the school operates independently, it still maintains a close relationship with Eastern New Mexico University.

Clovis Community College offers a variety of programs dedicated to assisting in academic transfer or career development. Academic transfer is accomplished by completing the first two years of a four year education at CCC, followed by applying for transfer to a four year institution to complete the final two years and earn one's bachelor's degree. Established in 1912 as La Crosse Continuation and Adult Schools, the Western Technical College changed its name to Western Wisconsin Technical College in the early 1990s. However, it was in March 29, 2006 when it became officially known as Western Technical College. Today, most students also call WTC as Western.  Located in La Crosse in Wisconsin, Western Technical College aims to provide excellence in student education based on the diversified needs of different students. Cloud County Community College, located in Concordia, Kansas, was founded in 1965. The school was located at a temporary campus for three years, followed by moving to its permanent location. Athens Technical College, located in Athens Georgia, was founded in 1958 when it was first known as the Athens Area Vocational-Technical School. The school was renamed in 1987 to Athens Area Technical Institute as part of its expanding role in the community. The current name was adopted in 2000, and was chosen because of the school's ability to issue associate degrees alongside more traditional technical certificates and diplomas. The school is one of the 25 that comprise the Technical College System of Georgia, a statewide system of colleges dedicated to promoting workforce development throughout the various counties of the state. ATC operates several campuses in a number of areas, including Elberton, Monroe, and Greensboro.

Education

Students of Athens Technical College will be able to choose from a large number of programs that allow for the development of pertinent skills to ones desired field of employment. Southern Crescent Technical College, located in Griffin, Georgia, was established through the merger of two pre-existing institutions, Griffin Technical College and Flint River Technical College, in 2008. Savannah Technical College, located in Savannah, Georgia, was founded in 1929 through the sponsorship of the city council.
